On October 27-28, 2011, a two-day international conference was held at the Macedonian university in Skopje.

Session I  “Establishing Korea-Bulgaria Educational Partnership”  
Session II “Understanding and Opportunities between Korea&Macedonia”
Scholars in the area of Korean studies from Macedonia, Bulgaria and Korea participated. They presented papers on the strategies for the establishing and development of Korean studies in Macedonia and shared their opinions in discussions.

An exchange was conducted with the purpose of preparing a next generation of scholars and cultivating specialists in the area of Korean Studies:

1. A visit to Macedonia by a Korean expert, giving lectures
2. Macedonian students, studying in Korea
3. Korean students, studying in Macedonia

The exchange for the preparation of a next generation of scholars and the cultivation of specialists in the area of Korean Studies was organized in the following :

A visit to Macedonia by a Korean expert, giving lectures and participating in academic events. The co-participant in the currents research team Prof., Kim Won-hoi on April 5th 2011, gave lecture to the students from the Faculty of Humanities of the Macedonian university on “Korea, the Koreans and the Korean Language Education”.

Relevance to the Project
During the 1st World Humanities Forum, sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea and UNESCO, and organized by the Korea Research Foundation and the Korea UNESCO Commission, held on 24th November 2011, Prof. Kim Wonhoi, who is member of the current research team, presented a paper related to Macedonia, under the title “Conflicts of Human Civilization and a Healing Place for the Humanities: The Balkans, Macedonia, Skopje.”

Session I  Enhancement of Cultural and Academic Research on Korean and Macedonian

Scholars in the area of Korean studies from Macedonia, Bulgaria and Korea participated. They presented papers on the strategies for the establishing and development of Macedonian studies in Korea and for the development of Korean studies in Macedonia. They shared their opinions in discussions and proposed effective methods for that.

On the contrary to the 1st international conference, the 2nd international conference was held in Korea. 2 Macedonian professors and 1 Bulgarian professor participated in this conference with their own articles.

Raising of the rating of Korean Studies and
Korean Language

Relevance to the Project
When the current research was initiated in December 2010, Korean studies (the lectures in Korean language) were rated third module(3외국어) among the foreign languages.
As the research was conducted, thanks to the activities and the support of the research team, Korean studies and Korean language’s rating was raised to second foreign module(2외국어). Accordingly, in the new curriculum the number of classes was increased and in 2011 more students, in comparison with the previous year, studied Korean. The following document is the official order of the University for Korean language as the second foreign module.

Notes
Thanks to the 2 years research activities, Korean language became the 2nd foreign module of Macedonian university. It means that Korean language got the chance to become the separate major of independent foreign language department in Macedonian university and can attract more attention from Macedonian students and people.
