Outline of the Research
|
The research team consists of four members.
All four of them have done previous research and have written papers on the
subject. Apart from the above participants, additional three prominent
scholars from Macedonia who have interest in Korean Studies are also taking
part in the two conferences (2011, 2012). They have achieved significant results in
writing research papers and presenting them at international conferences. The
following is an outline of the previous research done by all the
participants.

Research Paper 1
|
Maksim Karanfilovski, <The
Korean Language in Macedonia>
☞ Research
Summary: Korea and Macedonia, the two people need a better mutual
acquaintance, broader intercultural communication, strengthening of the
friendship. The two universities (Macedonian University and Hankuk University
of Foreign Studies) in the concrete case have a desire and an opportunity to
make the needed historical first steps of the two cultures and the two
peoples to come closer together despite the geographical distance and the
cultural difference.
The study of Korean language
in Macedonia and Macedonian language in Korea has a multilateral importance.
Students from the two countries come to study the language of a new friendly
country and they become the “first swallows” of a new friendship, while it,
by itself, is an enormous treasure. This justifies the feeling of content
from achieving a better understanding and deepening the friendship between
the two people.

Paper 4

Kim Wonhoi, <Macedonia in
Korea - It’s image and memory: An intercultural approach>
☞ Research Summary: The
study presents the results of the tracking and systematization of all
materials in Korea concerning Macedonia. It is a comparative cultural
research focusing on the image Koreans have of Macedonia. It states that in
Korea, in all, there are 377 books, research papers and multi-media materials
on Macedonia. Based on this research, five keywords were proposed, describing the images Koreans
associate with Macedonia. They are: Mother Theresa, Alexander the Great,
green energy, holy land and a source of conflict on the Balkan peninsula.
An additional study (This
part was presented in the 1st international humanities forum,
2011) expounds on the problems of Macedonia and Kosovo as places of ethnic
and religious conflict on the Balkans and the efforts to look for a solution
within the sphere of humanities.

Research Paper 5
|
Ilija Aceski, <The perception of the
Republic of Korea (South Korea) by students in the Republic of Macedonia>
☞ Research Summary: In
the study Korea and the image of Korea are analyzed through the results of a
survey conducted among students in the University of Macedonia. In the
survey, students from the Department of Marketing, the Department of
Philosophy and the Department of Linguistics and Literature of the university
of Macedonia were asked questions, through which details of their knowledge
of Korea and the necessity of Korean language education were obtained and
analyzed.

the following questions:
1. What does the
study of the students’ perception of Korea show?
2. How informed are
they students about Korea?
3. What is the
students’ interest towards Eastern civilization?
4. Perception of

Research Paper 6
|
Radica Nikodinovska, <The Semantics of
Some Korean Proverbs and Their Equivalents in the Macedonian Language>
☞ Research Summary: The
purpose of this paper is to make an analysis of some Korean proverbs in order
to discover whether they have semantic equivalents in the Macedonian
language, and if that is the case it would mean that the two cultures are
perceiving reality in a similar way, or otherwise it would mean that they
have totally different modes of perceptions of the external reality. This
analysis aims to open a window to the Korean language and culture and also
encourage and stimulate Macedonian students to learn and study the Korean
language and to carry out deeper analysis of the Korean proverbs. The analysis
is conducted in base of a small dictionary of Korean proverbs with literally
English translation accompanied by an extensive explanation of the meaning of
proverbs.

Research Paper 7
|
Maksim Karanfilovski, <The
Macedonian Language at Universities Abroad>
☞ Research Summary: From 1967-1968
until today about twenty Macedonian lectorates have been opened in the world.
Eleven of them work now but Macedonian is studied at many other universities
where there are no Macedonian lectors and courses are taught by domestic
lecturers. Macedonian language lectorates abroad are cultural centers
of their own kind that contribute immensely to the popularization of
Macedonian culture abroad and assist its faster and more successful
integration with the other European and world cultures. The author seeks
the way of opening Macedonian studies in Korea and promoting Macedonian in
Korean society.

|
Research Paper 8
|
Spas Rangelov, <Korean
Studies in Macedonia in the Context of the Present State and Development of
Korean Studies in Eastern and Southeastern Europe>
☞ Research Summary: The central geographical position of the Republic of
Macedonia itself on the Balkan peninsula is a potential asset for the future
growth of Korea-related studies and research on a regional level (Macedonia
is already well ahead of Greece, Albania and Kosovo in that field) and for
the establishment of Skopje as a future regional hub for Korean studies. The geographical proximity to Sofia, which has grown
into a Korean studies hub for Southeastern Europe, is also a great advantage.
Some students have already gone individually or in self-organized groups to
attend Korea-related events, visit Korean restaurants, or explore the
possibilities of taking the TOPIK exam in Sofia. In this sense,
Sofia provides us proper example.

Research Paper 10
|
Kim Wonhoi, <Teaching
Macedonian to Korean Students – on the Basis of language and Intercultural
Difference>
☞ Research Summary: For
Korean and Korean students, the Macedonian language and culture is still
strange and new one. Of course in Korea, many Slavic languages and cultures
are taught. For example, we, in Korea, have Russian, Bulgarian, Czech, Polish
and Serbo-Croation
language departments. But, we do not have separate Macedonian department in
Korea. In the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, in some Slavic
departments are taught Macedonian language as the subject for comparative
studies. Teaching
Macedonian to Korean students is not well established and is some kind of new
challenge. The author writes and tries to make the good methods of teaching Macedonian to
Korean students by following two ways;
1. Teaching
Macedonian to Korean students by dialectal and linguistic feature basis and by comparative
Slavic method.
2. Teaching Macedonian to Korean
students by intercultural communication points of view.

Research Paper 11

Radica Nikodinovska, < The Beginnings of
Macedonian and Korean modern poetry : Kočo Racin and Kim So-Wol >
☞ Research Summary: Despite the huge distance
between Macedonia and South Korea and their different spiritual, historical,
cultural, linguistic and other traditions, still, in some spots of their
historical passage these two different people share a common destiny, being
in different periods, part of a great empires (the Ottoman, the Serbian, the
Bulgarian, the Byzantine Empire for the Macedonian people and the Empire of
Japan for the Korean people). The aim of this
paper is to give a brief comparison between the beginnings of Macedonian and
Korean modern poetry through the analysis of the work and personality of two
poets, the Macedonian poet Kočo Racin and the Korean poet Kim So-Wol. My
choice of these poets is based on the period of time in which they lived and
wrote poetry, which is the beginning of the 20th century, the
period before the Second World War.
